Montgomery Parks has announced its schedule for Veterans Day weekend including updated hours and activities such as free skating for military personnel.
On Saturday, Nov. 11, veterans and active duty personnel can skate for free during public sessions at Wheaton Ice Arena from 12:30-2:30 p.m. and 4:30-6:30. Free skating for military members will also be at Cabin John Ice Rink from 12-2 p.m., 4-6 p.m. and 8:30-10 p.m.
The open parkways will be extended during the weekend so parkways will be open to pedestrians and bicyclists but closed to motor vehicles as follows:
- Beach Drive between Connecticut and Knowles Avenue (2.9 miles)
- Friday, November 10, at 9 a.m. until Sunday, November 12, at 4 p.m.
- Sligo Creek Parkway between Old Carroll Avenue and Piney Branch Road and between Forest Glen Road and University Boulevard West
- Friday, November 10, at 9 a.m. until Sunday, November 12, at 4 p.m.
- Little Falls Parkway between Arlington Road and Dorset Avenue (0.4 miles)
- Open 24/7 for recreation and exercise
The parks, trails, gardens, playgrounds, dog parks and tennis/pickleball and basketball courts will be open from sunrise to sunset with select outdoor courts available for rent.
The inline hockey rink at Ridge Road Recreational Park and street hockey/futsal rink at Dewey Local Park may be permitted, or are available first come, first served, if not reserved.
Montgomery Parks Headquarters and Permits Offices, Montgomery Parks Customer Service Office, Brookside Gardens Visitors Center and Conservatory and Woodlawn Manor Museum will all be closed on Veterans Day when observed on Nov. 10.
