The county’s animal adoption center will waive adoption fees for all animals until further notice.
The shelter in Derwood is full and adoptions are “urgently needed,” per a release Tuesday. Dogs, cats, guinea pigs, rabbits and reptiles are available at the Montgomery County Animal Services and Adoption Center (MCASAC).
The center is at 7315 Muncaster Mill Road. It is open everyday except Wednesday.
Interested adopters can start the process by filling out an online questionnaire and emailing documents, or they can start the process in-person at the center.
Adoptions are first-come, first-served by appointment. Walk-ins are based on counselor availability, per the release.
In October, MCASAC held an adoption event with fees waived for dogs 40 pounds and over when the county said adopters were “urgently needed” for medium and large dogs.
In August, the county stated MCASAC “reached a dangerous capacity” and the shelter waived adoption fees for the next 100 pets adopted by Aug. 24.
