Since then, the month of March has been recognized as a time to honor the contributions and achievements of women throughout American history.
1. Schools Close Early: The public schools release students early today. Gaithersburg hosts a youth summit for middle and high school students today from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Activity Center at Bohrer Park.

3. Carving Demonstrations: Olney-based chainsaw artist Colin Vale transformed a 300-year old Linden Oak tree into a bench that was unveiled in December 2023. This weekend he will do carving demonstrations outdoors at the Kennedy Center’s River Pavilion.
4. Free Steering Wheel Locks: Maryland residents with Hyundai or Kia vehicles can get free steering wheel locks at the Rockville State Police Barracks Saturday and Sunday. This applies to cars that use a physical key to start.
5. Read With a Partner: Two libraries host reading partner sessions for kids in kindergarten through third grade Saturday and Sunday. Kids can arrive at the following sessions with their own book or pick one on the spot, and they’ll be paired with a volunteer.
