March 25 is Maryland Day which commemorates the date in 1634 when settlers disembarked from two small sailing ships, the Ark and the Dove, onto Maryland soil.
In 1916, the Maryland General Assembly authorized Maryland Day as a legal holiday. It is a legal holiday but not a day off for workers or students.
in 1788, Maryland officially became a state. It was the seventh of the original 13 states.
Founded in 1776, Montgomery County was the 17th county established in the state of Maryland.
