Montgomery County will host “Care Be Aware” Teen Mental Health week from April 6 -13.
The week will focus on providing resources to teens and their family members while shedding light on issues surrounding mental health. The initiative will feature more than 20 events through out the week covering everything from talks with mental health professionals to healthy creative outlets.
“For far too long, there was a stigma about talking publicly about mental health…I am pleased that those times have passed, and we are proactively encouraging our youth and their families to gather and learn about the resources we offer to help,” County Executive Marc Elrich said in a press release.
Montgomery County Public Libraries, Montgomery County Recreation and the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human services collaborated to create the initiative.
The week will kick off with a poetry slam by Grammy-nominated poet Queen Sheba from 1:00-4:00 p.m. on April 6, at the Wheaton Community Recreation Center and Library.
Events will focus on bringing teens in the community together to discuss their issues while at the same time reminding them that they are not alone.
