The Montgomery County Board of Elections is inviting school-aged students, grades 6-12, to participate in its “Future Vote” program.
Interested students may choose to serve as Future Vote Ambassadors during early voting (May 2-9, 2024) and/or on primary election day which will be held on May 14. Students who are 16 years or older can also choose to serve as poll workers, according to the Board’s statement.
Election Day Ambassadors
The Future Vote Program is available to all Montgomery County students in grades 6-12. U.S. citizenship is not a prerequisite, but students must be able to speak, read, and write in English. Students with bilingual and American Sign Language skills are encouraged to apply.
Volunteers will earn Student Service Learning (SSL) hours for their service.
Interested guardians can register their children by April 21. To apply, text FV to 77788 or visit www.777vote.org and select the Future Vote tab, and then select Frequently asked questions about future voting (FAQs), according to the statement.
Election Poll Workers
Students age 16 and older are eligible to register to vote and serve as poll workers.
Each student will earn a minimum stipend of $250 or up to 25 hours of Student Service Learning (SSL) per full day of service. People who served at polling places or voted early in previous elections will receive a $100 bonus per full day of service ($50 for half-day shifts). To apply, text SERVE to 77788, or visit the Board of Elections website at www.777vote.org, then select the Election Worker tab, and then select the High School Poll Workers tab, according to the statement.
