Police said the driver wanted in an April 8 fatal hit and run on Veirs Mill Road in Wheaton was arrested Wednesday.
Gilver Yuviny Zelaya Diaz, 42, of Silver Spring, is accused of fatally striking 26-year-old Jacques Price and leaving the scene, according to the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD). Police previously stated Price was riding his skateboard on the road when he was struck by a driver in a white Acura TL.
According to police, on April 12 investigators found the 2009 Acura TL in Zelaya Diaz’s driveway at his home on Middle Road. The registration was traced to him. Detectives started a search for Zelaya Diaz.
He remained outstanding until he was located by police in Silver Spring. Zelaya Diaz has been charged with failure to return and remain on the scene of an accident involving a death, according to police.
It was the second fatal pedestrian hit and run that occurred within a few days in Montgomery County earlier this month. According to police, in both collisions it is believed a white Acura is involved, but police previously emphasized the two crashes did not involve the same car and are not related.
According to police, a fatal pedestrian hit and run also occurred April 5 on Randolph Road. 52-year-old Ronaldo Franzese was pronounced dead at the scene. As of April 10, investigators were confident they found the car from that collision.
