MCPS Annual Teaching Awards Set for May 1

Montgomery County Public Schools will present the 2024-25 Teacher of the Year award and other teaching honors on Wednesday, May 1 in Rockville.

The Carver Educational Services Center will host the celebration at 6:30 p.m. where a livestream on YouTube will also be available.

Here are the finalists for Teacher of the Year:

  • Janie Earle, kindergarten teacher at Poolesville Elementary
  • Carrie Kraynak, English Language Development teacher at Flower Hill Elementary
  • Morgan Patel, social studies teacher at Montgomery Blair High
  • Melissa Porter Parks, English Language Development teacher at Gaithersburg High

MCPS will also name the Supporting Services Employee of the Year. Here are those finalists:

  • Chaula Butterworth, paraeducator, Farmland Elementary
  • Robin McCue, administrative secretary III, MCPS Department of Athletics
  • Bruno Smith, building service manager III, Mill Creek Towne Elementary

The Rising Star Teacher of the Year award goes to Danielle Cover, a chorus teacher at Westland Middle School.

Margarita Bohórquez, director of MCPS International Admissions and Enrollment, won the Dr. Edward Shirley Award for Excellence in Educational Administration and Supervision.

MCPD Chief Marcus Jones, set to retire July 1, will be honored as Community Champion for Children.

Farron Riggs, paraeducator and baseball coach at Rockville High, is this year’s R.A.I.S.E. Champion of the Year.
