Montgomery County Public Libraries’ “Just for the Record–A Vinyl Day” event is taking place over Facebook Live on Saturday, July 25, from 12 to 3 p.m. and will allow residents not only to watch musical performances, but to learn about and discuss vinyl records.
According to its website, this is Montgomery County Public Libraries’ third annual “Just for the Record” event. The “celebration of music, culture, art and sound” was originally set to take place on April 18, but was postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, residents will still be able to immerse themselves in music and information about vinyl records with Saturday’s events, only virtually.
The day will start off with the “Make Music Montgomery” Contest at 12 p.m., in which county residents will perform musical acts for a “distinguished panel of experts.” Performers in the contest will compete for various categories, such as “most physically challenging performance” and “best tribute to an artist.” Judges will make selections “based upon upon musicality, originality, diversity of formats and acts, and practicality (whether the venue can accommodate the performance),” according to Montgomery County Public Libraries’ website. The first prize winner will receive $100 and the second prize winner will receive $50.
“Just for the Record’s” second event is the Vinyl Day panel discussion, which starts at 1 p.m. and will center on “making, collecting, and playing vinyl records.” Following that is the last event of the day, a workshop on pricing vinyl records, set to begin at 2 p.m.
All ages are welcome to attend the events on Saturday and no registration is needed. More information can be found here.
