Welcome to MCM’s Weekend Roundup of entertainment in Montgomery County. Here are 9 things to do this weekend, May 10-12.

Friday, May 10

Play Day in the Park: Families with young children will explore at their own pace in and around the Black Hill Discover Center Friday from 11 a.m. to noon. Nature play prompts will remain out for the duration of the program. All ages are welcome but prompts and materials are geared towards children aged one to three. Free registration is required. Cultural Heritage Concert Series: The county hosts a series of four concerts during May to promote an understanding of diverse cultures. Today’s concert features performing artists Somapa Thai Dance Company and Vladimir Fridman and takes place at the Marilyn J. Praisner Community Recreation Center Friday, May 10 at 6 p.m. Free and appropriate for all ages. The recreation center is located at 14906 Old Columbia Pike in Burtonsville. Zumba in the Park: From now through September 6, the city of Gaithersburg offers Zumba sessions Friday evenings outdoors at the Concert Pavilion. Zumba features interval dance sessions that combine fast and slow rhythms to maximize fat burning. Free, all ages and experience levels welcome. Sessions begin at 7 p.m. The Concert Pavilion is located at 31 South Summit Avenue. For more information, click here.

Saturday, May 11

Tiny Lil’ Ones Carnival: Activities for children ages 5 and younger include moon bounce, ball pit, games, arts and crafts, food, and a petting zoo Saturday, May 11 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Clara Barton Neighborhood Recreation Center. Free. RSVP using ActiveMontgomery.org The center is located at 7425 MacArthur Boulevard in Cabin John.

Mother’s Day Hike and Craft: Montgomery Parks hosts a special hike, followed with a craft at the Maydale Nature Classroom Saturday, May 11 at 10:30 a.m. Activity designed for children (and their adults) ages 3 to 8. After learning about how animals care for their young in the wild, the group will take a short hike and then make a special gift for Mother’s Day. Cost is $6. BlackRock Artisans Market and Open House: The outdoor artisans market returns on the second Saturday of each month with hours  Saturday’s  is held every Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. Expect hand crafted jewelry, candles, and more. For more information, click here.

In addition to the Artisans Market, there will be live performances, snacks and drinks, free activities and workshops from noon to 4 p.m. At 3 p.m., BlackRock kicks off the process to develop a new strategic plan to guide operations and programming for the next 4-5 years. Sunday, May 12

Bethesda Fine Arts Festival: The 18th annual Bethesda Fine Arts Festival features fine art created by 120 artists and live entertainment. Hours are Saturday 10 a.m.-6p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Contemporary artists from around the country will display and sell their fine arts and crafts at the two-day festival.

Sunday Lego Challenge: Quince Orchard Library’s monthly Lego challenge takes place Sunday, May 12 from 2 to 4 p.m. Each month features a different LEGO challenge to be completed. Parents or caregivers must accompany children under the age of 12 during the program. Free. Quince Orchard Library is located at 15831 Quince Orchard Road in Gaithersburg. Mother’s Day Skate: Celebrate Mom by taking her for a skate. Both the Wheaton Ice Arena and the Cabin John Ice Rink offer free admission and skate rental for mom when she is skating with another paid admission on Sunday, May 12. The Wheaton Ice Arena is located at 11717 Orebaugh Avenue and the Mother’s Day Skate hours are 3 to 5 p.m. The cabin John Ice Rink is located at 10610 Westlake Drive in Rockville and the Mother’s Day Skate hours are 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.
