Rockville’s Joan Vassos Named First Ever Golden Bachelorette

“The Golden Bachelorette” announced Tuesday that Joan Vassos, Rockville resident, Landon School administrator and grandmother, is the franchise’s first Golden Bachelorette.

Vassos, 61, made a name for herself on The Golden Bachelor when she quickly hit it off with the show’s namesake, Gerry Turner, a widower from Indiana, but then suddenly departed the show when her daughter asked her to come home because of a difficult pregnancy. “You need your mom. Nothing is more important.” Vassos said in tears at the time. “I have to go and be a mom.”

“The Golden Bachelorette,” which was announced earlier this year, will air Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET this fall on ABC.

MCM talked to Vassos in December asking her at the time about the possibility of becoming the Golden Bachelorette.
