James Brown, host of the NFL Today on CBS and a record 11 Super Bowl pregame shows, won the 2024 Lifetime Achievement Award at the 45th Annual Sports Emmy Award Tuesday night in New York.
“I’m crystal clear that this award is absolutely not about me but the legions of people that have poured into me,” Brown said during his acceptance speech,

Brown, 73, is a longtime Montgomery County resident who starred in basketball at DeMatha Catholic High School and Harvard University. After being drafted and cut by the Atlanta Hawks, Brown worked in the corporate world for a few years. He then embarking in a career in sports broadcasting in 1984. He started calling games for the Washington Bullets and working as an anchor/reporter at WUSA9 before moving to the NFL on Fox in 1994. In 2005 he began hosting the NFL on CBS. He is an ordained minister.
