A 3-year-old girl is recovering in an area hospital after accidentally shooting herself inside a Montgomery Village apartment, according to Montgomery County Police.
Tuesday at approximately 12:09 p.m., officers from the Montgomery County Department of Police 6th District responded to the 18700 block of Walkers Choice Road for a report of an injured child.
Montgomery County Fire & Rescue (MCFR) transported the child to the hospital where she underwent surgery.
Using a warrant, police searched the residence and recovered a .40 caliber privately manufactured firearm, which is commonly known as a ghost gun and doesn’t have a serial number.
A 15-year-old who does not live at the location has been charged with possessing ammunition by a prohibited person, a misdemeanor. The juvenile was released to his parents.
This remains an active investigation. More information will be released when it becomes available.
