5 Things to Know Today, June 10, in Montgomery County

It’s Monday, June 10 and here are five things to know. Check the weather forecast here.

1. Pride Flag Raising Ceremony: County Executive Marc Elrich and Councilmember Evan Glass will lead the ceremony to raise the Pride flag at 9 a.m. The flag will fly at the Veterans Memorial Plaza in Rockville with both the Maryland state and the Montgomery County flags. The ceremony will relocate to the Executive Office Building Auditorium at 101 Monroe Street if it rains.

2. Graduations: Commencements today include students from Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School, Magruder High School, and Rockville High School.

3. Council President Briefing: Council President Andrew Friedson’s weekly media briefing resume today and is scheduled for 11:30 a.m.  Friedson will provide an update on the Council’s process to move forward with the County Executive’s nominees for the next Fire Chief and Police Chief. 4. Teachers Rally: The teachers union will rally at Veterans Plaza in downtown Silver Spring at 4:30 p.m. ahead of the Board of Education’s Tuesday vote on their budget. The union is fighting to prevent teacher furloughs and other workforce cuts to balance the budget.

5. Municipal Monday:  The Gaithersburg Mayor and Council meet at 7:30 p.m. for a work session. Find the agenda and agenda packet online.  The Rockville Mayor and Council meet at 7 p.m. at City Hall. Find the meeting agenda online. Both meetings are open to the public, who may join in person or virtually.
