Emanuel Edward Sewell, who is charged with second degree murder in connection with the brutal killing of a Maryland Parole and Probation officer May 31, is being held without bond.
When his fellow agents did not hear back from Agent Davis Martinez after he went to make a resident check on Sewell, a registered sex offender, Montgomery County police were called to Sewell’s residence on Terrace Drive in Chevy Chase.
According to court documents, officers “found an unresponsive male wrapped in multiple plastic bags underneath a bed.” The officers said Martinez was found in a fetal position and there was a bloodied towel near the front door.
“In other words, it is unknown whether the victim was cut/stabbed, shot with a firearm, or suffered some other/additional trauma. The death is being investigated as a homicide,” it stated in the court document.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
At first, the officers pinged Martinez’s phone and learned it was in the vicinity of two dumpsters about 50 yards from Sewell’s residence, according to court documents.
When they did not find a body, the officers then entered the residence by force.
Sewell had fled according to an account by a neighbor who saw him drive away. He was located June 1 by U.S. Marshalls Task Force officers as he was traveling on I-64 near Hurricane, West Virginia.
Martinez, 33, was a six-year employee of the Maryland Department of Public Safety & Correctional Services and operated out of a Silver Spring office.
