19 year-old Bryan Kim, a Brookeville native, is part of the field at the 124th U.S. Open Golf Championship at Pinehurst No.2 beginning Thursday.

Kim, an amateur, earned his spot after winning the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship last July as a freshman at Duke University. He defeated Joshua Bair, of New Zealand, 2-up, in the 26-hole championship match, becoming the first 21st-century Duke golfer to claim this title.

Kim, one of the youngest in the U.S. Open field, won the Maryland junior title in 2019 and 2021, and was named a Rolex American Junior Golf Association All-American in 2021 and 2022. He attended Sherwood High School, finishing as runner-up in the State championship as a freshman in 2019 and senior in 2023.

Update: Kim shot an opening round 2 over par 70 and is 7 shots back of the leaders, Patrick Cantley and Rory McIlroy who are 5 under. Kim is currently the second lowest amateur.
