1. Heat Wave: The high temperature at BWI Airport reached 98 degrees Sunday afternoon breaking the previous high on record of 97 degrees set in 2010 and 1894. The National Weather Service predicts the highs today to be cooler than Sunday.
After the weekend heat, this week starts off relatively cooler with highs in the 80s-low 90s. Other than a few storms this morning, expect a dry start as well. 2. Mobile Market Mondays: The Universities at Shady Grove’s Mobile Market free food distribution is back from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today. Stop by the room G318 on the ground floor of the Biomedical Sciences and Engineering Building, bring your grocery bags, and pick up some food. The market welcomes all volunteers, sign up here if interested in helping. Participants can park in lot 2 and will receive parking vouchers while picking up food.
3. Council Committee Meetings: Three council committees meet today. The Economic Development and the Health & Human Services committees hold a joint meeting at 9:30 a.m. The Planning, Housing and Parks committee meets at 1:30 p.m. for a worksession on the Great Seneca Master Plan and attainable housing. All meetings are open to the public, broadcast live on County Cable Montgomery, and streamed live on YouTube.
4. Municipal Monday: The Gaithersburg Mayor and Council will not meet today. Their next meeting is scheduled for Monday July 1 at 7:30 p.m. The Rockville Mayor and Council also will not meet for a regular session this week. Instead, the city is holding a public meeting to talk about two ongoing projects in Town Center, the Rockville Metro Station concept study and the Town Center Master Plan. The meeting takes place in the Mayor and Council Chambers of Rockville City Hall from 7 to 9 p.m. Find more information here.
