Welcome to MCM’s Weekend Roundup of entertainment in Montgomery County. Here are 9 things to do this weekend, July 5-7.
Friday, July 5
Art Walk: Glen Echo Park hosts open studios and artist demonstrations from 6 to 8 p.m. every first Friday of the month from May through August. Each month features different activities, including hands-on art projects and artist demonstrations. The program and map for Friday’s Art Walk may be found here. Free. Glow in the Park: Adventure Park in Sandy Spring features a night of climbing and ziplining under the neon-colored lights throughout the park Friday from 6 to 11 p.m. with the last start time of 8:20 p.m. The park includes 16 courses made up of bridges, ziplines, ladders, rolling elements and unique climbing challenges. The park is open Fridays through Sundays with varying hours. Admission fee varies. Purchase tickets for Friday’s Glow in the Park here. The Adventure Park at Sandy Spring Friends School is located at 16701 Norwood Road in Sandy Spring.
Zumba in the Park: From now through September 6, the city of Gaithersburg offers Zumba sessions Friday evenings outdoors at the Concert Pavilion. Zumba features interval dance sessions that combine fast and slow rhythms to maximize fat burning. Free, all ages and experience levels welcome. Sessions begin at 7 p.m. The Concert Pavilion is located at 31 South Summit Avenue. For more information, click here.

Saturday, July 6
Fresh Farm Market: The market operates every Saturday year round. Currently, the Saturday hours are from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Located in Veterans Plaza in downtown Silver Spring. Free. For more information and a list of participating farmers and producers, click here.
Independence Day Celebration: The county’s second Independence Day celebration and fireworks display takes place on Saturday, July 6 at Albert Einstein High School. Live music will begin at 6 p.m. featuring Joe Falero and Downtown Sound. Then around 9:15 p.m. the fireworks display starts. Free. Shakespeare in the Parks: Montgomery Parks presents three performances of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” during July. The first takes place on Saturday, July 6 at the Meadowside Nature enter from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Bring your lawn chair, a picnic, and enjoy theater under the stars. Free. Sunday, July 7
Chess: The Rockville Chess Club, a small group of chess enthusiasts, gather regularly to learn and play. Sunday, July 7 from 1 to 6 p.m., the club invites anyone interested in playing chess to join them at Rockville Memorial Library. All skill levels and ages are welcome. Free. Storytime for Kids: The People’s Book store presents author Taylor Darks Sunday, July 7. Darks will read from her book, “Be, Black Girl, Be” from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. People’s Book is located at 7014-A Westmoreland Avenue in Takoma Park. Free, but tickets required due to limited seating. Lavender Festival: Attendees will be immersed in the lavender fields, enjoy delicious treats, pick a lavender bundle, create a hand scrub, and enjoy a glass of Lavender Lemonade.
