Fireworks Cause July 4 House Fire in Aspen Hill

Fireworks caused a fire at an Aspen Hill home Thursday night on the Fourth of July, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer.

There were no injuries, according to Piringer. One person is displaced.

Firefighters were dispatched around 11:30 p.m. July 4 to the 14400 block of Brad Drive. The fire originated on the carport roof and spread to the attic space, according to Piringer.

Damage totals more than half a million dollars, including $400,000 in structural damage and $100,000 in damage to contents, cars and a neighbor’s shed.

Also, after midnight Friday, a fire to the exterior of a home in Wheaton was caused by discarded fireworks, according to Piringer.
