New Superintendent Emphasizes Communication, Transparency in Letter to Community

New MCPS superintendent Dr. Thomas Taylor shared a letter with the community Wednesday reflecting on his first few days in his new job.

“You may have heard me say that this is my dream job, and it is,” Taylor wrote. “Returning to the community where I grew up, went to school and now serve is professionally rewarding.”

In the wake of controversies surrounding recent superintendents, Taylor portrayed a commitment to communication and transparency between MCPS and the people they serve.

“My aim is to keep the lines of communication open between us as we move Montgomery County and its school system forward together,” Taylor wrote.

The new superintendent also shared a link to a superintendent survey, originally sent out June 12, informing the public that he was keeping it open until July 5. The survey allows people to provide their feedback on MCPS and some things the system should and should not do.

Taylor also noted that he is making feedback received via the form public, saying that “transparency is really important to [him].”

Along with his message, Taylor shared phone numbers for the MCPS English (240-740-3000) and Spanish (240-740-2845) language phone lines for Quick Response Requests.

“I am optimistic about the upcoming school year and our very bright future together,” Taylor wrote. “I am eager to work with you, our amazing staff and the broader community to make great things happen for our kids.”
