5 Things to Know Today, July 11, In Montgomery County

It’s Thursday, July 11, and here are five things to know in Montgomery County.

1. Council: The Education and Culture Committee meets today at 9:30 a.m. with this agenda. The committee will receive two briefings from Montgomery County Public Schools, including information on literacy and math performance for students in kindergarten, and grades 3, 6, and 9.

2. Yappy Hour: The Humane Society is hosting a happy hour at Rockville’s World of Beer from 5-8 p.m. Enjoy an evening on the patio with your furry friend. A percentage of the proceeds will support the Montgomery County Humane Society.

3. Montgomery Parks: The Parks Summer Concert Series kicks off tonight with local favorite The Nighthawks. The concert takes place from 6 to 8 p.m. at Black Hill Regional Park.

4. Glen Echo Summer Concerts: The free outdoor concert occurs at 7:30 p.m. in the Bumper Car Pavilion. Tonight Argentine-born singer and teacher Claudia Gargiulo performs. Glen Echo Park is located at 7300 MacArthur Boulevard in Glen Echo.

5. ICYMI: Meet 10-year-old Aiden Adams who uses his music to “make the world a better place.” The rising fifth grader has written songs about bullying and Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech. Recently, he performed at Java Nation in Rockville and raised more than $3,500 for Shepherd’s Table in Silver Spring. This week, he brought his guitar to entertain the lunchtime clients and toured the Shepherd’s Table facility at Progress Place in Silver Spring.
