Phoebe Bacon, a 21-year-old Olympic backstroker and graduate of Stone Ridge in Bethesda, took time out of her busy schedule in Paris to call out NBA player and USA basketball star Anthony Edwards.
“Hey Anthony Edwards, Phoebe Bacon here,” Bacon said in a video posted to X. “I heard that if there was a sport you could be in, it would probably be swimming… so I want to challenge you to a 50 freestyle at this Olympics.”

The 22-year-old Edwards, who blossomed as a star for the Minnesota Timberwolves this past season, is well-known for his confidence, though he may finally have met his match with Bacon in the pool.
Bacon qualified for the semifinals in the 200 meter backstroke Thursday morning, clocking the fourth best time of the day with a 2:09.00. The semifinal will take place Thursday afternoon, with a spot in Friday’s finals on the line.
