The tenth annual Montgomery County Friendship Picnic returns to Wheaton Regional Park on Sunday, Sept. 15, from noon to 5 p.m. After last year’s event was canceled due to thunderstorms, this year’s picnic is set to take place at 2000 Shorefield Road.
The picnic brings together people of many cultures and faiths to celebrate the diversity of the county. The goal of the free picnic is to enable people to make new friends and to build a stronger community.
Lunch options include American traditional, Kosher, Halal, Latino, Ethiopian and vegetarian. The event will feature a variety of activities for all ages, including music, dancing, face painting, a petting zoo, and a moon bounce. Attendees can also enjoy the carousel and rides on the park’s miniature train.
Along with recreational activities, the event will feature small group discussions on building a nonviolent, respectful community.
There is no need to register in advance to attend. Attendees do not need to bring food or drink to the event. All will be provided.
Free parking and shuttle service will be available to and from the Wheaton Ice Rink and athletic fields located at 11717 Orebaugh Avenue.
