Public Safety Town Hall Draws About 200 Concerned Residents

Montgomery County Councilmember Natali Fani-Gonzalez recently led a public safety meeting at the Wheaton Recreation Center on public safety.

Numerous county officials discussed drug abuse, treatment centers and ways to keep young people active and safe before a crowd of almost 200 people.

Fani-Gonzalez talked to MCM about the town hall.

“We are in need of a facility that is actually secure for these extreme causes,” Fani-Gonzalez said concerning a treatment center for young drug abusers. She said the county is pushing for state funds to establish a center.

Currently, there is only space for 30 young people to receive inhouse treatment.

Speakers included Chief of Police Marc Yamada, Delegates Aaron M. Kaufman, Emily K. Shetty, Jared Solomon, Charlotte A. Crutchfield, Bonnie L. Cullison, Vaughn M. Stewart III, and Senators Jeff Waldstreicher and Ben Kramer.
