While Hurricane Helene continues to bring rain to the Southeast, Bethesda-based chef José Andrés’ nonprofit, World Central Kitchen (WCK), has mobilized to assist support efforts. The organization is known for both its domestic disaster relief efforts, and humanitarian aid in places like Haiti and Gaza.
WCK’s relief team and Rapid Relief Field Kitchen have prepared meals for needy families across impacted areas. According to the organization, the field kitchen can provide thousands of meals a day.
Less than 12 hours after Hurricane Helene passed over Steinhatchee, FL, the team distributed nearly 400 meals to affected families.
After the hurricane swept through Georgia, WCK teams were the first aid organizations to arrive and provide support.
In Asheville, NC, WCK deployed helicopters to fly in sandwiches and water to nearby communities. Many have become isolated due to the hurricane’s rendering roads impassable.
“I’m very proud of all the teams,” said Andrés on social media. “It is good to see the best people pulling together…doing God’s work.”
