Montgomery College Announces First Endowed Student Athlete Scholarships

Thanks to a generous give from Mary Pat and Darren Alcus, Montgomery College now has its first endowed scholarship for student athletes.

The Alcus Family Endowed Athletic Scholarship is not the first gift from this family. The Alcus’ help support the Achieving Collegiate Excellence and Success (ACES) program. In addition, Mary Pat Alcus has been a long-time member of the Montgomery College Foundation’s Board of Directors, where she now holds the role of chair.

The Alcus’ scholarship covers the cost of tuition as well as providing students with a stipend. “For our student-athletes, working while taking classes, training, and competing simply isn’t an option,” said Mary Pat Alcus.

“We are incredibly grateful to Mary Pat and Darren Alcus for their extraordinary support of our student-athletes,” said Dr. Jermaine F. Williams, president of Montgomery College. “Empowering students with athletic passions to achieve their academic goals simultaneously is a life-changing investment. The Alcus’ commitment shows how deeply they understand the role of athletics in forming academic communities that propel student achievement.”
