A Year Later, Sergeant Kepp Returns to ‘Normal Life’

Last October, Montgomery County Police officer Patrick Kepp was seriously injured in the line of duty as he tried to apprehend a reckless driver. After he was hit by the speeding car, he lost use of both of his legs.

MCM interviewed Sgt. Kepp at Walter Reed Hospital last December when he was in recovery and dealing with his new physical reality.

Recently we had the chance to catch up with him after a year of rehabilitation.

Sergeant Kepp is learning to drive a modified car and hopes to be back on patrol on the roads again soon.

He and Dr. Earl Stoddard, Director of the Montgomery County Office of Emergency Management & Homeland Security, are working together to strengthen aggressive, negligent and reckless driving laws in the state. They plan to testify at the Maryland General Assembly in the upcoming session.
