The county council is holding its annual Youth Town Hall Wednesday, Nov. 20 at 7 p.m. Students can attend the meeting at the hearing room in the Council Office Building in Rockville to share their views and converse with councilmembers.
“The Council’s yearly Youth Town Hall is an opportunity for students to come together with their local elected leaders to share ideas and envision a shared future for Montgomery County,” said Council President Andrew Friedson.
In previous years, the event has seen students question officials on topics like bullying, funding issues and safety concerns within schools. Last year’s town hall saw over 200 participating students, with dozens attending in-person.
“We value innovative thinking at the Council, and by fostering open dialogue with students from across the County, we hope it will empower the next generation to take an active role in shaping their communities,” said Friedson.
Student Member of the Board (SMOB) Praneel Suvarna will be in attendance, as well as Superintendent Dr. Thomas Taylor.
In order to participate, students must register online. Additionally, for those wishing to be credited with two student-service learning hours, they must complete an SSL advocacy exercise presented during the event. For students who cannot join in person, a Zoom link will be provided upon registering.
