Torrey Moore, 33, of Silver Spring was found guilty Friday of murdering his pregnant girlfriend, 26-year-old Denise Middleton, and her unborn viable fetus in 2022.
“To my knowledge that is the first time in the history of Montgomery County that we’ve had a conviction for murder of a viable fetus,” County State’s Attorney John McCarthy told media Friday afternoon following the jury’s verdict.
Moore was found guilty of two counts of first-degree murder for killing Middleton and her unborn fetus, according to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office (MCSAO).
Middleton was eight-and-a-half months pregnant when she was killed. She was shot seven times and was in an advanced state of decomposition when police found her body in Moore’s apartment.
Sentencing is scheduled for March 28 next year. Moore faces the potential of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
He was also convicted of handgun use in the commission of a felony, crime of violence against a pregnant person, and illegal handgun possession, according to MCSAO.
Moore also awaits sentencing for a separate first-degree murder conviction for killing 61-year-old Ayalew Wondimu, who was a gas station store clerk.
