The return of Exotic Smashmouth Football

The Commanders offense has been in a tailspin over the past few games and really felt like a group that was trending in the wrong direction. On Sunday, Stella Got Her Groove Back. The team got back to its identity on offense, exotic smashmouth football. Balance is what stood out, 30 pass attempts and 45 run attempts. On the ground, Washington racked up 267 yards, the most in a game since December 2012. If Washington is going to finish strong, they can’t get away from their identity.

O-Line up for December football

Heading into Sunday, a lot was made of the offensive line’s poor performance over the team’s 3-game losing streak, the group was beaten up and simply not playing well. With the Titans coming to town boasting one of the NFL’s top defenses, it’s understandable that folks would have doubts about the O-line’s ability to play well against a tough opponent. The big fellas put together one of their best efforts of the season. The team gained 463 yards of offense while allowing only 2 sacks, a masterclass from the big guys up front.

Top 5 Terry

During the team’s 3-game slide, everyone had their reason as to why things were not clicking on offense. Many folks blamed the lack of involvement for wide receiver Terry McLaurin as the reason things were not on track. So what did Washington do? They got McLaurin involved early and often. His 8 targets were the 2nd most all year long, and 17 produced when his number was called. 8 receptions for 73 yards and 2 TDs, a performance that brought Terry to a career high 9th TD reception on the season. Daniels to McLaurin is something we will be saying for a long time.

Ultimate opportunists

One of the biggest differences in Sunday’s win vs Tennessee was the team’s ability to capitalize on the Titans’ mistakes. Two Titan turnovers led directly to 14 Washington points. Seizing those opportunities took the life out of the Titans, something we did not see in the loss last week to Dallas.

Career milestone for Jayden Daniels

IF there was ANY question about the health of Jayden Daniels, Sunday was another opportunity to put that narrative to bed. Daniels was in total command all afternoon long. The rookie went 25 for 30 with 206 yards and a career high 3 TD passes. He also chipped in with 34 rushing yards and another TD on the ground. Rookie of the year? I think so.
