Father of Police Officer Killed by Drunk Driver Honored

The father of Montgomery County Police Office Noah Leotta, who was killed nine years ago by an alcohol-impaired driver while patrolling the roads, received the Safe Roads Now 2024 Clarence Ditlow III Safety Champion Award.

Rich Leotta was honored Thursday at the nonprofit’s Highway Safety Hero Awards ceremony at the U.S. Capitol complex for his work helping to enact Noah’s Law.

Under this law, people who are found guilty of impaired driving in the state of Maryland will have an ignition interlock system installed on the vehicle.

Noah Leotta was struck by a drunk driver on Dec. 3, 2015 and died seven days later. He was a member of the Police Holiday Alcohol Task Force.
