Corrections Departments Awarded $113,00 Grant for Computers

Montgomery County Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (DOCR) received $112,699 from the Maryland Computer Labs Program to enhance its computer labs.

The grant from the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development will be used in the Detention Services and Community Corrections division to bridge the digital divide, according to a news release.

According to Director Ben Stevenson, “These enhancements will bring modernized resources to DOCR staff and the individuals under our care, fostering greater access to educational gaps in access to devices and the internet for Maryland’s most underserved population.”

The improvements include:

  • American Job Center Lab – 20 upgraded PCs and 60-inch television to replace existing projector
  • Model Learning Center Lab – 20 upgraded PCs and an 86-inch television
  • Incarcerated Individual’s Family/Friends Visitation – 86-inch touchscreen television to display information
  • Pre-Release and Reentry Services Lab – upgraded lab with 16 PCs and 65-inch television
  • General Educational Development Classroom – two computers, 70-inch television
  • Blue Room – 70-inch television and new laptop for resident orientation
  • Outside Classroom – 86-inch television and laptop for resident training
  • Pre-Trial Services – New lab to conduct intake interviews with eight laptops and 65-inch television
