Volunteers Needed for Annual Homelessness Count

Montgomery County will hold its annual Point-in-Time (PIT) Count on Jan. 29 and 30 to identify unhoused individuals. The count will run from 8 p.m. Wednesday to 3 a.m. Thursday, and volunteers are needed to assist.

The PIT Count offers a one-night snapshot of homelessness in the County. Volunteers will visit areas where unhoused individuals are known to stay and conduct brief surveys.

The data collected helps guide local efforts to provide resources and services to those experiencing homelessness. It also supports the county’s strategy to end homelessness. The survey gives participants an opportunity to share their experiences and perspectives.

The 2024 count identified 1,144 unhoused individuals, a 28% increase from the previous year.

To volunteer, complete the 2025 Point-in-Time volunteer registration form by Wednesday, Jan. 22. Volunteer training starts at 8 p.m. on Jan. 29, with dinner provided at 7:30 p.m. Volunteers will go out in teams following the training. The count will run from 11 p.m. to 3 a.m.

Training locations:

  • Piccard Office Building: 1301 Piccard Drive, 1st Floor Conference Room, Rockville.
  • Silver Spring Civic Building: 1 Veterans Place, The Great Hall, Silver Spring.
