Silver Diner in Rockville announced it is closing Sunday night through Wednesday for remodeling and will re-open on Thursday at 7 a.m.
They are modernizing and updating the walls, countertops, booths and tables according to hospitality manager Anthony Mendoza.
“Nothing too drastic” Mendoza told MCM but he said people will notice the difference.
He stressed that they are not taking away the authenticity of the popular diner. “We’re keeping the classic jukeboxes and the big jukeboxes that’s what makes this diner classic,” he said.
The remodeling was strategically done now during the slower season after New Year’s according to Mendoza. Originally, they were planning to do it in early 2024.
Mendoza is excited to see the finished product and to show it off to customers on Thursday. “We have one of the most supportive clienteles in the area.”
The Rockville location is the oldest of the Silver Diners in the region. It opened in 1989 at the Mid-Pike Plaza (now Pike & Rose) then moved to its current location about ten years ago to 12276 Rockville Pike, where Bennigan’s used to stand.
Mendoza told MCM that anyone that shows up Tuesday and Wednesday during normal business hours will get a $5 or $10 gift certificate for Silver Diner due to the inconvenience.
