Isiah “Ike” Leggett served as Montgomery County Executive from 2006 to 2018.
Leggett visited MCM’s studios in Rockville Tuesday to tape an interview on Montgomery County’s history. MCM asked Leggett about recent immigration-related executive orders from President Donald Trump.
“Doing this by executive order, in a sort of heartless manner in which we’re doing it, does not serve our community in the long term very well,” Leggett said.
“Young people in our school system — they are people who want to be a part of our community,” he said.
“I think we can achieve much of the objectives by going through the traditional methods. Doing some of this by executive order, I think, is inappropriate because it does not provide the kind of warnings and processes that people need to follow.”
