The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Montgomery, Howard, and Loudoun counties. The warning is in effect from 1 p.m. Tuesday to 7 a.m. Wednesday. A Winter Storm Watch had previously been issued but was upgraded as the storm approached.
Heavy snow is expected, with accumulations between 3 and 6 inches. The storm will likely create slippery road conditions, affecting both the Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning commutes.
Travelers should allow extra time to reach their destinations and remain alert for ongoing plow and salt operations. Scattered power outages are possible. Do not approach downed utility wires, as they may still be energized.
If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency. For the latest road conditions, call 511. For additional details, visit the National Weather Service’s website.
