The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) will offer low-cost adult bike classes in April, May and June. The classes include nine Learn to Ride sessions and one Basic Skills session. MCDOT also will offer four free, walk-up e-scooter classes after select bike sessions.
Advance registration is required for bicycle classes and costs $10 for Montgomery County residents. Washington Area Bicyclist Association (WABA) and Capital Bikeshare For All members can participate for free but must register.
Bicycles and helmets are provided for Learn to Ride participants. Basic Skills participants can rent them from WABA if needed.
Learn to Ride participants will practice starting, stopping, balancing, gliding, pedaling and steering. Basic Skills participants, who should already know how to ride, will refine their biking techniques. WABA instructors will lead all classes.
Classes are open to residents 18 and over, limited to 25 people and fill quickly.
Online registration for April classes is now open on the WABA website under the Classes tab. Registration for May classes opens at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, April 2. June class registration opens at 9 a.m. on Friday, May 2.
