Program Provides Free Tax Assistance for Low-Income Residents

Through the Community Action Agency’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, Montgomery County residents who earned $67,000 or less may qualify for federal, Maryland, and Montgomery Earned Income Tax Credits.

To prevent residents from paying expensive fees for online tax help, the Community Action Agency’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program connects them with free software to claim their full refunds and recommends using IRS-certified tax partners.

Offering in-person and virtual appointments through April 10, 2025, the program expands access to free tax preparation services.

Beyond tax preparation, residents have access to financial education tools and resources to help them keep more of their money and build their savings.

The maximum Earned Income Tax Credit available is $7,830.

More information, including how to register and book an appointment, can be found at montgomerycountymd.gov/cashback/schedule.html.
