
There was “a moderate increase” in crime in the City of Rockville during 2024 as compared to the previous year.
According to a report on police work during 2024, there were 449 crimes committed against another person, 2,107 crimes committed to property and 77 crimes committed against society.
During 2023, there were 454 crimes committed against another person, 1,868 crimes committed to property and 92 crimes committed against society.
Rockville City Police, which has 73 sworn officers and an annual budget of $16.1 million, received a total of 26,047 calls for service.
Officers arrested 761 individuals, issued 2,000 traffic citations, seized 32 firearms and investigated 11 incidents of hate/bias.
Fewer speed camera citations were issued, but more red-light camera tickets were, according to the report. During 2024, 19,475 speed camera and 47,183 red-light camera citations were issued.
During its annual gun buyback event, police collected 250 firearms.
2024 marked the least number of officers assaulted in the past 10 years. There were six.
Also during the previous year, Rockville City Police improved its law enforcement communication technologies.
