A Hyattsville man was sentenced to five years in prison for involuntary manslaughter in the fentanyl overdose death of a Montgomery County teenager, according to the  Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Cesar Alexander Lopez, 26, received a 10-year-sentence, with all but five years suspended. He will serve five years of supervised probation upon release.

Lopez pleaded guilty on Nov. 8 to involuntary manslaughter in connection with the death of 17-year 0ld Aiden Vining.

According to court documentation, a family member found Vining unresponsive on Oct. 24, 2023. Fire rescue personnel attempted life-saving measures, but he died at the scene.

Officers found a straw with white residue and a blue pill marked “M 30” in Vining’s wallet. The pill was later identified as Percocet.

An autopsy by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner confirmed the cause of death as cocaine and fentanyl intoxication.

Montgomery County police identified Lopez after learning he had arranged to meet Vining and sell him 10 Percocet pills the day before his death. Investigators also discovered that Vining had purchased cocaine from Lopez three days earlier, prosecutors said.

Judge Sharon Burrell presided over the sentencing hearing.
