Bruce Adams, former Montgomery County Council President who founded the Bethesda Community Baseball Club in 1998, will host a virtual discussion about the county’s Black history surrounding baseball. The discussion, called “In Search of the Ballfields of Montgomery’s Black Communities,” will be held from 1:45-3 p.m. Baseball was “the center of civic life” along with churches and schools for many Black communities in the county during the first half of the 20th century, according to the event’s description. The talk will explore the story behind “town teams” among Black communities and their importance “during the decades when Negro League baseball was thriving across the country from the 1920s through the early 1960s.”
