The Lion in Winter
January 17, 2025 - January 26, 2025
Gaithersburg Arts Barn, 311 Kent Square Rd, Gaithersburg, MD 20878, USASibling rivalry, adultery, and dungeons – The Lion in Winter, by James Goldman, is a modern-day classic.
Comedic in tone, dramatic in action – the play tells the story of the Plantagenet family, who are locked in a free-for-all of competing ambitions to inherit a kingdom. The queen, and wealthiest woman in the world, Eleanor of Aquitaine, has been kept in prison since raising an army against her husband, King Henry II. Let out only for holidays, the play centers around the inner conflicts of the royal family as they fight over both a kingdom and King Henry’s paramour during the Christmas of 1183. As Eleanor says, “Every family has its ups and downs,” and this royal family is no exception. (2 hours 30 minutes)https://www.gaithersburgmd.gov/recreation/performing-arts/theater/the-lion-in-winter

Inside My Head: The Musical
January 22, 2025 8:00 pm - 9:30 pm
The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center, 8270 Alumni Dr, College Park, MD 20742, USARegistration is now open for Inside My Head: The Musical! Hosted by NAMI Maryland, this autobiographical performance - that explores one person’s journey with bipolar - will be held on Wednesday, January 22nd, 2025 at 8:00 pm, at the University of Maryland College Park’s Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center, Gildenhorn Recital Hall. https://namimd.org/inside-my-head-the-musical/
This one-man show by Broadway pianist Zak Sandler (Mean Girls, Wicked) begins with Zak’s first manic and depressive episodes during his junior year at Yale University. On stage, the pre-recorded voices of Zak’s mania and depression sing to him like they’re inside his head. This groundbreaking, one-night-only production will take each of us on a personal journey to examine the deepest, most vulnerable parts of ourselves— the ones we may not want others to see— and reveal how we can move from shame and denial to self-love and acceptance.
In addition to this ticketed performance, NAMI Maryland is hosting a VIP reception preceding the show at 7:00 pm. Join us for hot and cold hors d’oeuvres while enjoying a unique opportunity to network with local and statewide decision-makers, community leaders, and other VIPs.
Tickets for the live performance are $20.00. VIP tickets, which include VIP seating and access to the pre-event reception, are $100.00.
