‘Nature on Wheels’ Coming to a Park Near You

Nature on Wheels, a mobile nature center and science field station, will make its first stop at Acorn Park in Silver Spring on Friday, announced Montgomery Parks, which is part of the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission.

The mobile station is equipped with field research and presentation tools, mobile displays and other activities. Park naturalists will lead the programs and games.

“We can’t wait to take our nature programming on the road and engage with residents in the neighborhoods where they live and play,” said Angela Yau, Facility Manager, Locust Grove Nature Center.  “Nature on Wheels allows us to provide nature programs in a safe, outdoor environment and is a way for us to increase access to community science, community service, and career exploration programs throughout the county.”

This weekend, Nature on Wheels will travel to Acorn Urban Park Friday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. On Saturday, May 1, it will be at Rachel Carson Conservation Park in Olney from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Sunday, May 2 it will visit Arora Hills Local Park in Clarksburg from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Montgomery Parks also announced that the nature center at Brookside Gardens will now be open Saturdays and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The nature center at Locust Grove will be open Saturdays and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
