Montgomery County will not host fireworks or an Independence Day celebration this July 4, according to a release from the county.
The county could not guarantee the “Germantown Glory” and “Mid-County Sparkles” events would be possible due to uncertainty around the COVID-19 pandemic earlier this year, the statement said, and the county did not enter contracts for the events.
The City of Gaithersburg also said that due to pandemic uncertainty during planning stages, it could not coordinate fireworks in time for July 4. Instead, from July 1-4, residents can participate in the city’s Red, White and Blue Weekend with different activities. The city plans to hold a fireworks display on Sunday, Sept. 5 during Labor Day weekend.
Takoma Park also will not have its usual July 4 parade or fireworks show. Instead, the city will hold a “Parade of Houses” in which homes and businesses can register for a decoration contest. Homes/businesses outside the city can register so people know to visit, but they cannot win prizes.
Montgomery County canceled public fireworks displays last year due to the pandemic.
All fireworks, sparklers included, are illegal in Montgomery County.
Outdoor pools will be open from noon-7 p.m.
