Today is Friday, Oct. 29 and here are five things to know in Montgomery County.
1. Food Distribution Events: There are three food distribution events today for anyone in need. From 9 to 10:30 a.m. you can stop by Upcounty Hub Drive-thru Distribution at Mother Seton Parish in Germantown. The Interfaith Works Food Distribution in Rockville provides food to individuals from noon to 12:30 p.m. or to persons in cars from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Stop by the Choice Pantry Food Distribution at Seneca Creek Community Church in Gaithersburg from 2 to 3 p.m. See more food distribution events here.
2. Park Closures: The 10 Mile Creek Segment of the Black Hill Regional Park and the Bucklodge Conservation park, both located in Boyds, are closed today as part of Montgomery Parks annual deer population management program. Saturday, Oct. 30 the Hoyles Mill Conservation Park in Boyds is scheduled to be closed.

3. Adam Ortiz Farewell: Today is Adam Ortiz’s last day heading up the county’s environmental protection department. He has been appointed as the regional administrator for the EPA’s Mid-Atlantic Region. He is the first person from Maryland to serve as an EPA regional administrator.

5. Happy Halloween: Trick or treaters will be knocking on doors in neighborhoods across our county Sunday night. If you are looking for some scares, check out our list of haunted houses and forests; as well as a list of family fun for all ages. If you plan on partying on Halloween, free safe rides home are available through SoberRide.

And one more thing: The annual F. Scott Fitzgerald literary festival honoring the works of F. Scott Fitzgerald takes place Saturday, Oct. 30 and is virtual again this year. Author John Edgar Wideman will receive the award for Outstanding Achievement in American Literature. The events are virtual and free, registration is requested online here.
