Residents Speak Out After County Lifts Indoor Mask Mandate

Montgomery County’s indoor mask mandate was lifted as of 12:01 a.m. Thursday.

The mandate was suspended after seven straight days of CDC-defined moderate COVID-19 transmission. Leaders said the mandate will be reinstated if the county hits substantial transmission again.

Face coverings are still required in Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) and on public transportation. The City of Takoma Park continues to mandate masks in indoor city facilities. Also, businesses can choose to require indoor masking.

Several businesses in Gaithersburg’s Downtown Crown still displayed signs requiring face coverings for entry. On Thursday, residents around the shopping center shared their thoughts on the mandate lifting.
