Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) released a list of in-person and virtual opportunities for students during days when they’re out of school, according to an MCPS press release.
With winter break beginning this week, there are several events starting Thursday, Dec. 23. for elementary school children and Tuesday, Dec. 28 for those attending secondary schools.
Here’s a full list of what’s being offered during the break:
- Take and Make a Kinara for Kwanzaa in-person for Grades Pre-K through Kindergarten at Wheaton Library starting on Thursday, Dec. 23 and continuing through Thursday, Dec. 30.
- Outdoor Family Storytime with Mr. Joe in-person for Grades Pre-K through Kindergarten at Rockville Library on Monday, Dec. 27. and Thursday, Dec. 30.
- Virtual Story Time for ages three through six hosted by The National Postal Museum on Monday, Dec. 27 from 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.
- Find the Candy Canes in-person at Long Branch Library for Grades Pre-K through 5 on Tuesday, Dec. 28.
- Read to a Dog virtual event for Grades 2 through 5 on Tuesday, Dec. 28 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.
- Gingerbread Man Hunt in-person at Germantown Library for Grades Pre-K through 5 on Wednesday, Dec. 29 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.
- New Year Bell Ringing Storytelling virtual program for Grades Kindergarten through 5 hosted by the Asian Art Museum on Friday, Dec. 31 from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.
- Typewriter Poetry Pop-up virtual event for Grades 9 through 12 hosted by Ars Poetica Smithsonian on Tuesday, Dec. 28, Wednesday, Dec. 29 and Thursday, Dec. 30 from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
- Teens Learn New Writing Technique in-person event for ages 13 through 18 at Potomac Library on Tuesday, Dec. 28 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
MCPS also listed school closings for the following upcoming dates:
- Wednesday, Jan. 12 for half of the day
- Monday, Jan. 24
- Thursday, March 24 for half of the day
- Friday, April 1
- Monday, May 2
- Wednesday, May 18 for half of the day
