Rep. Raskin Seeks Next ‘Michelangelo’ in National Art Contest

High school students are invited to submit their original artwork beginning Monday for the 2022 Congressional Art Competition. U.S. Rep. Jamie Raskin, who represents the 8th District, announced the launch, noting that the winners receive Congressional recognition in the U.S. Capitol.

Raskin is seeking “the next generations of Michelangelos and van Goghs living right here in the 8th Congressional District.”

“There is no better exhibition of the boundless artistic vision and virtuoso skills of our young people across Maryland’s Eighth than the submissions to the Congressional Art Competition,” Raskin said. “These pieces by high school students across our district offer an exciting glimpse into the future of American art. I thank all participants in advance for sharing their gifts with the people of the 8th District.”

The first place winner’s artwork will hang in the Capitol for one year, along with the winning entries from throughout the country. The top winner also will “earn a place in Representative Raskin’s virtual art gallery,” he noted.

The contest is open to all high school students residing in the Eighth District. Entries must be submitted digitally by April 11 at 5 p.m. Here are the rules and information and release form. Submissions can be submitted here.
