County Board of Elections Appoints Directors, Calls for More Election Workers

Alysoun McLaughlin was named acting director and Janet Ross acting deputy director at the Montgomery County Board of Elections (BOE).

McLaughlin takes over the responsibilities of Margaret Jurgensen, who retired on Jan. 1. Since then, McLaughlin and Ross have been leading the BOE as it prepares for the June primary.

McLaughlin has been deputy director since 2012, having begun her career as a nonpartisan lobbyist for the National Association of Counties and the National Conference of State Legislatures, according to a news release.

Ross joined the BOE in 2007 as the lead election worker trainer and became its information technology manager in 2013. She also managed the City of Rockville municipal election in 2011.

The BOE needs registered voters to serve as paid election workers at polling places for the June 28 Gubernatorial primary election. Especially needed are people who can speak multiple languages and those from Bethesda, Cabin John, Chevy Chase, Darnestown, Potomac and Rockville.

Students who are 16 years or older can serve and receive up to 25 student service learning credits.

Training is required and will be provided. To apply, text SERVE to 77788 or go to www.777vote.org.
