Maryland’s newly approved Congressional map is already causing ripples across county politics. With the Sixth District now redrawn to include new and possibly less Democratic-leaning constituents, U.S. Rep. David Trone will use $2 million of his own money to start fundraising for re-election.
He announced his personal money is needed as, “I have never taken money from PACs, lobbyists, or corporations and never will.” In a news release, Trone called his personal contribution a “down payment.”
Trone, who founded Total Wine & More, recently sent an email to his supporters noting that he “is a new addition to the 2022 NRCC Target List,” and that national Republicans expect to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to defeat him.
He is seeking his third term in Congress.
